Open Letter to Thorold Residents and City Council
Potential Impact of a Significant Vote on Thorold’s Autonomy
The upcoming vote on June 18th regarding the adoption of ICLEI's Partners for Climate Protection (PCP) program presents a critical decision for our community. While the intentions behind such international agendas are often universally accepted as laudable, it is vital that we thoroughly consider the implications of adopting external mandates on our local community. Local councils can choose the best remedies that serve the highest and greatest good, reflecting the unique needs and values of Thorold rather than adhering to a one-size-fits-all international framework.
This vote could radically change the sovereignty of our exquisite, charming, one-of-a-kind Canadian town. At this critical juncture in Canadian history, the federal government is $1.2 trillion in debt. The consequences of this financial burden are uncertain and could profoundly affect our lives, including those of our friends, neighbors, and local businesses.
Doug Ford is currently deliberating whether to add an additional $100 billion to Ontario's debt. You may wish to express your opinion on this matter by sending him an email or letter.
A Thought-Provoking Question
Consider this: if your family were burdened with such debt, would you spend extra money on external priorities that do nothing to address the pressing needs of your family? With our collective intelligence, years of experience, knowledge, and common sense, we can devise brilliant environmental solutions. Thorold boasts Brock University, several high schools, and an environmentally minded population, providing a rich source of collaboration and brainstorming opportunities within the community. This fosters relationships and reflects the values we strive to uphold. Genius resides here in Thorold, and local councils can choose remedies that serve the highest and greatest good. We, the people, were put here to thrive and be good stewards of the sacred land and elements.
A Call to Awareness
"Freedom is not taken away at gunpoint but instead one piece of paper at a time, one seemingly meaningless rule at a time, one small silencing at a time." The resolution to adopt the FCM ICLEI Partners for Climate Protection Program is one such piece of paper that may negatively impact our local autonomy. Let us be awake, explore options, and discern the truth as we navigate these complex issues.
Sincerely,
Donna Dalton
A Concerned Canadian

There should be a trained accountant in every town and city looking into the many assorted COSTS of these non-Canadian entities controlled by outside entities and pretending to have our interests. No wonder so many people are sliding into poverty!
Great letter and Substack. Sharing
